When you find something special in the App Store, iTunes Store, or Apple Books, you can gift it to a friend or family member. You can also send someone funds as Apple ID balance so that they can get iCloud storage, pay for subscriptions like Apple Music, or buy something from the App Store, iTunes Store, or Apple Books.
The recipient of your gift must have an Apple ID in your country or region. For example, if you're in the United States, you can't send a gift to a friend who lives in Australia.
You can't send gifts in all countries and regions. Store availability also varies by country or region. Learn what's available in your country or region.
Send a gift
- You can't gift individual songs on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. To gift a song, use your Mac or PC.
- You can't gift apps, TV shows, or movies on a Mac. To gift those items, use an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Send a gift from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Open the App Store app, iTunes Store app, or Books app. If you're not signed in, sign in with your Apple ID.
- Find the item that you want to give.
- Find and tap the Gift button:
- In the App Store, tap the Share button , then tap Gift App .
- In the iTunes Store, tap the Share button , then tap Gift .
- In the Books app, tap Gift .
- Enter your recipient's email address. If you want, add a message.
- By default, the gift is sent immediately after you buy it. If you want to schedule the gift to send later, tap Today, then set the date that you want the gift to send.
- Tap Next.
- Select a theme for your gift, then tap Next.
- Tap Buy, then tap Buy Now to confirm.
You can't gift a free item, but you can tap the Share button to send someone a link to the item.
Send a gift from your computer
- Open the Music app or Apple Books. Or on a PC, open iTunes.
- In the iTunes Store or Book Store, find the item that you want to gift.
- Click the Show sharing options button next to the item's price.
- From the menu that appears, choose Gift This [item type].
- Enter your recipient's email address.

- Select a theme for your gift and click Next.
- To confirm your gift purchase, click Buy Gift.

Email a gift card
When you send a gift card by email, the recipient can redeem the amount to their Apple ID balance, which can be used for apps, games, iCloud storage, subscriptions like Apple Music, and more. But for some purchases, Apple ID balance can't be used. Learn what you can buy with Apple ID balance.
Email a gift card from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Open the App Store app.
- Tap your photo or the sign in button at the top of the screen. If you're not signed in, sign in with your Apple ID.
- Tap 'Send Gift Card by Email.'
- Enter your recipient's email address. If you want, add a message.
- Tap the amount that you want to gift, or tap other to enter a different amount.
- By default, the gift is sent immediately after you buy it. If you want to schedule the gift to send later, tap Today, then set the date that you want the gift to send.
- Tap Next.
- Select a theme for your gift, then tap Next.
- Tap Buy, then tap Buy Now to confirm.

- Under Quick Links, click Send Gift.
- Enter your recipient's email address.

Resend a gift
When you send someone a gift, they receive an email notification. In the email, they can tap or click Redeem to redeem the gift. The item will open and start to download to their device or computer. Then you'll get an email with a line item that says 'App Store & iTunes Gift for [email address].'
If you send a gift and the recipient doesn't receive an email, resend the gift.
Resend a gift from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap your name, then tap iTunes & App Store.
- Tap your Apple ID at the top of the screen, then tap View Apple ID. You might be asked to sign in with your Apple ID.
- Tap Gifts. If you don’t see Gifts, then you haven’t purchased any gifts with this Apple ID recently.
- Tap the gift that you want to resend.
- Tap Resend Gift. If you don't see Resend Gift, it has already been redeemed.
Before you resend, make sure that the recipient's email is spelled correctly. If you need to edit or change the recipient's email address, tap their email address on the Gift detail screen.
Resend a gift from your computer
- Open the Music app or Apple Books. Or if you're on a PC, open iTunes.
- From the menu bar at the top of the screen, choose Account > View My Account. (In Apple Books, choose Store > View My Apple ID.) You might be asked to sign in with your Apple ID.
- On the Account Information page, scroll to the Purchase History section and click Manage Gifts.
If you don’t see Manage Gifts, you haven’t purchased any App Store & iTunes Gifts with this Apple ID recently. - Click View next to the gift that you want to resend.
- Click Resend Gift. Before you resend, make sure that the recipient's email is spelled correctly. To edit the recipient's email address, change the address in the box under Recipient.

- If you want to cancel a gift, you can contact Apple Support up to two days before scheduled delivery.
- Gifts are charged to the payment method that you have on file for your Apple ID, even if you have balance available. You can't buy a gift with credit.
- If you're using Family Sharing and Ask To Buy is turned on for your account, you can't purchase gifts.
iTunes Search API

Overview
The Search API allows you to place search fields in your website to search for content within the iTunes Store and Apple Books Store. You can search for a variety of content; including books, movies, podcasts, music, music videos, audiobooks, and TV shows. You can also call an ID-based lookup request to create mappings between your content library and the digital catalog. Developers may use promotional content in the API, including previews of songs, music videos, album art and App icons only to promote store content and not for entertainment purposes. Use of sound samples and other assets from the API must be proximate to a store badge. Terms and conditions apply.

Searching
To search for content from a field in your website and display the results in your website, you must create a search field that passes a fully-qualified URL content request to the iTunes Store, parse the JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) format returned from the search, and display the results in your website.
The fully-qualified URL must have the following format:
https://itunes.apple.com/search?parameterkeyvalue
Where parameterkeyvalue can be one or more parameter key and value pairs indicating the details of your query.
To construct a parameter key and value pair, you must concatenate each parameter key with an equal sign (=) and a value string. For example: key1=value1. To create a string of parameter key and value pairs, you must concatenate each pair using an ampersand (&). For example:
key1=value1&key2=value2&key3=value3
Note: When creating search fields and scripts for your website, you should use dynamic script tags for your xmlhttp script call requests. For example:

Notes
- It is critical to encode your URLs correctly in order to be commissioned for partner links. Notes on partners encoding raw links can be found in the Advanced Partner Linking document.
- To improve response times, minimize the number of search results the Search API returns by specifying an appropriate value for the limit parameter key.
- The Search API is limited to approximately 20 calls per minute (subject to change). If you require heavier usage, we suggest you consider using our Enterprise Partner Feed (EPF). If you wish to access content on our EPF, please review our documentation page for more information.
- Large websites should set up caching logic for the search and lookup requests sent to the Search API. For an illustration, see Caching Architecture later in this document.

Understanding Search Results
The Search API returns your search results in JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) format. JSON is built on two structures:
- A collection of name/value pairs, also known as an object; this concept is similar to a Java Map object, a Javascript Dictionary, or a Pearl/Ruby hash. An object is an unordered set of name/value pairs, beginning with a left brace ( { ) and ending with a right brace ( } ). Each name is surrounded by double-quotes and followed by a colon ( : ); the name/value pairs are separated by commas ( , ).
- An ordered list of values, also known as an array. An array is an ordered collection of values, beginning with a left bracket ( [ ) and ending with a right bracket ( ] ). Values are separated by commas ( , ).

Developers may use certain promotional content as may be provided by Apple, including previews of songs and music videos, and album art, for the purposes of promoting the subject of the Promo Content; provided such Promo Content: (i) is placed only on pages that promote the content on which the Promo Content is based; (ii) is proximate to a “Download on iTunes” or “Download on App Store” badge (as approved by Apple) that acts as a link directly to pages within iTunes where consumers can purchase the promoted content; (iii) includes attribution indicating the Promo Content was “provided courtesy of iTunes” if such Promo Content includes song or music video previews; (iv) is streamed only, and not downloaded, saved, cached, or synchronized with video, if such Promo Content includes song or music video previews; (v) is not used for independent entertainment value apart from its promotional purpose; and (vi) is not used to promote any other goods or services. Developer acknowledges that Apple provides the Promo Content “as is,” and disclaims any and all representations or warranties, including, but not limited to, non-infringement. Developer shall forward any claims received in connection with the Promo Content to Apple immediately upon receipt, and will remove any Promo Content immediately upon request from Apple.
